Description

The aim of the project is to address the current problems and difficulties based on the students' poor learning habits, lack of diligence and willingness to succeed, in a situation when teachers often are not able to encounter possible solutions to these in the current school system. Cooperation with the Norwegian partner Rimbareid school will offer an opportunity to compare school systems and experiences, thus identifying how the Norwegian school system works in order to gain new ideas, methods and didactic approaches in teaching. Rimbareid school will contribute to the project by sharing the experiences, methods and tools it uses when implementing educational programmes. The expected results are: a proposed set of exercises for developing abstract and critical thinking and higher cognitive thinking; and obtaining information and different methods for problem solving related to different real life topics such as drug abuse, domestic violence, premature pregnancy, cyber bullying, among other things.

Summary of project results

We strongly believe that teachers should continuously educate themselves, follow trends and search for new and fresh ideas to enrich the approaches to pupils and to stay motivated strongly enough to share the knowledge with passion. We found the way to reach all that in visiting Norwegian school, where we were collecting new ideas, comparing solutions, searching for reasons why there are so many differences in school systems etc. We gathered our impressions, facts and ideas and shared them with our school team, we introduced the ideas to teacher’s council of OŠ Vide Pregarc, we were writing a blog on our school’s homepage … Our aim was to widen the horizons and professional growth, and we achieved that aim for sure. We got an opportunity to discuss school problems (discipline, foreigners, reputation of teachers, parents interference etc.) and to realise why some things in Slovenian school system doesn’t work the way they should. But we also realised that there are some areas where we did better than Norway, and that lead to idea for continuing cooperation in more specified field for the next year.

Summary of bilateral results

Actually, we only informed the schoolmistress of our wish, goals we wanted to achieve, and she prepared the programme for us. During the stay we even enriched it with the visit of Social services centre which hadn`t been our plan at the beginning. Beside the programme, especially visiting school in Sweden, we were able to get to know Norwegian school system quite thoroughly. We exchanged or views, ideas, practice etc. We can implement few things in our school and wider, in school system. The presentation of our findings were given to our colleagues and to ones on other school including way of living, thinking, solving problems. Among others, there were comparisons between schools, social and ecological achievements and facts presented. We are still working in article for the newspapers. There still is an idea and wish for having the Norwegians in Slovenia so that they can see how the Slovenian school system and the way of living work by themselves. During our stay in Halden, which is a small town, we made few acquaintances with different people and we had to tell reasons of our staying there, about our country etc. Many hadn`t known anything about it so this was also a way of bilateral relations.
