Description

Most gases exhibit characteristic infrared radiation features observable by infrared spectroscopic instruments. However, when more than a few gases may be present simultaneously, with widely varying concentrations, the complexity of the overlapping spectral features can only be disentangled through advanced spectral analyses software. Such unique software has been developed by SINTEF (Norway) in and in parallel to several phases of ESA (European Space Agency) projects on trace gas monitoring. The methods were proven to be effective and reliable, most notably through a very successful blind sample testing for NASA. They proved their value in a real application through the ANITA flight (Analysing Interferometer for Ambient Air) on the ISS (International Space Station).

The combination of a commercial FTIR instrument and SINTEF unique gas calibration software, can give a commercial gas analyser with unique properties (as successfully proven by ANITA).

Interspectrum (Estonia) is an established producer and supplier of infrared FTIR (Fourier Transform InfraRed) instruments for more than 25 years. These instruments can produce IR spectra with high quality and high content of spectral information. Evaluation of the opportunity to combine SINTEF’s gas analyses software with one (or more) of Interspectrum’s FTIR instruments will be carried out, including any specific adaptations as necessary. A technical approach for making several systems with different calibrations for different purposes will be evaluated.
