Summary of project results

The main purpose of the project Young ambassadors of intercultural dialogue (YAID) was to set strong foundations for multicultural societies to become intercultural societies. The most important feature of the project was the selection of young ambassadors of intercultural dialogue. They identified 28 young ambassadors (goal set in the application was 20) aged between 12 and 15 years (young ambassadors actively represent the values of intercultural dialogue) and conducted 15 workshops (goal set was 10) where they included 349 pupils (goal set at 300). Additionally they trained new trainers - instead 5 new trainers as was set in the application they trained 17 individuals who will continue with the implementation of workshops. The project also conducted a survey about intercultural dialogue and establish circumstances for quality non-formal education of youth workers through hands-on training and involvement of minority organizations. A manual in Slovenian and English was written and published on the project web-page. The project got a lot of media attention - 21 articles about the project were written (mostly in local media) and over 170 posts on social media were published. The project overachieved it's goals, not just on the activity level, but also on the level of discussions the implementation of the workshops in schools have caused. The implementer had mostly positive experiences and feedback from schools, pupils and their parents, except from one school that later did not participate in the project (the theme they opposed were LGBTQ rights). Due to this negative response the implementer applied some additional prevention measures and had several discussion on the topic with headmasters, local authority representatives, parents etc. Over all the project is believed to be very successful and much needed.
