Description
In line with the overall international committment of the University, future international engagements through new initiatives and partnerships for academic, research, development or mobility purposes are expected to increase the university’s dinamism and opportunity diversity. The EEA Grants in Romania, beside the two-way mobility actions also responds to the collaborative international dimension needs of the medical education, cutting-edge research and innovation aimed to the medical sector, one of the most globalized one.
The main synergic activities that will be promoted during the project are:
- outward student mobility for training/ research purpose
- outward staff mobility for training purpose
The project objectives are:
-to promote the co-operation between home institution and DS institutions
-to provide students and staff with access to a global perspective
-to remove barriers to mobility by coherent raise of awareness, transparent information access, linguistic and administrative services including counselling, study recognition and certification measures.
-to foster programme supported staff mobility for training
-to insure a high quality outward student and staff mobility
-to build capacities for support services
The project is expected:
- to contribute to the EEA integration into the EU Area with respect to the university members’ freedom of motion
-to reduce disparities
-to increase partners’ mutual confidence in the educational and training conditions offered
The project beneficiaries are:
-undergraduate students (trainees)
-Ph.D. students
-academic staff members
The donor partners are renown HEIs, hospitals or research centres with high expertise level: ( e.g. Medicine, Genetic Toxicity, Biopharmacy).
They are supposed to undertake the role of supervising the students or host staff members for job shadowing purpose, know-how transfer and curriculum development.
Summary of project results
The already reached and recognized too, internationality at university level is a ground for more dynamism and opportunity diversity in academic, research and development policies in the next decade.Within this strategic vision, the 1st ESAYEP project particularly, was aimed to respond not only to the two-way mobility actions, but also to the collaborative international dimension needs of the education, cutting-edge research and innovation aimed to the medical sector, one of the most globalized one.
The main activities implemented were:
- outward student mobility for training/ research purpose
- outward staff mobility for training purpose
Both activities have been previously planned to be implemented during the project. The implementation was supported by several administrative and financial management activities in relation with the stage of the mobility (before, during, after). All the mobility activities and the support ones were important for reaching the goals both with respect to the participants and with the institution by insuring the quality standards of the exchanges and for capacity building in the EEA project management.
A total number of 9 outward mobilities, beyond inter-institutional agreements were implemented, as follows:
-3 SMP, at 1st and 3rd study level, all in the field of Medicine, with a focus on training in applied medical research.
-6 STT, 50% of them in the field of Medicine and 50% of them in the field of Pharmacy.
These achievements are only partially meeting indicators with respect to the target (60% in students’ case), despite of the fact that the budget was sufficient. The lower rate occurred due to the fact that no more than 3 students cancelled very late their mobilities for several reasons:family problems, lack of human resources during the summer period at host institutions, etc.
An overall achievement with respect to the activities is the fact that almost all participants belonged to the youth category,as the programme in general is aimed for.
In the students’case, the outcomes were especially as a result of the high-level research laboratory they had access to(for Ph.D.thesis,scientific publications)and the proficient medical team they have been integrated into. The staff reported activities related to their teaching activity(share of experience, curriculum development)and to the common research interest and opportunities, premises for long-term individual professional development.
Summary of bilateral results
The donor partners mainly played the role of host-institution. Once entered into this, they have placed enthousiasm, energy and resources ( human, laboratory) for contributing to each mobility goal. Moreover, they also contributed to the social integration of the beneficiaries, to enlarging the local collaboration potential and in some cases gave visibility to visits by welcoming the participant(s) on social media ( e.g. University of Tromso).
