Description

The inititative will bring together Czech and Norwegian geological surveys´ experts on geology, geomatics and 3D modelling. Through two joint meetings experts will establish new cooperation in the field of urban geology, resulting in future project applications. Although the city development is from space-wise reasons more and more pushed to underground, state-of-the-art geological analysis are at the present time not utilized among municipalities.
Cooperation, resulting from this initiative, will have three main targets:1) improving an access of municipalities to 2D/3D geological data by

Summary of the results

We decided to focus on largest possible spread of the knowledge not only among geological survey employees, but also among municipalities and other urban planners, professional consultants and research institutes based in whole Europe and worldwide. We organized two international webinars  to reach this target. First webinar "Urban geology" was held on 18.11.2020 and we focused on urban geological modelling at Geological surveys and selected city case studies. The webinar featured 9 talks from European experts, covering geological modelling practices at geological surveys in the Netherlands, France, Finland, United Kingdom and Poland, and invited city partners from Oslo, Manchester, Nantes and Darmstadt who described how these cities deal with subsurface. The second webinar "Urban geohazards" took place on 12.11.2021 and featured 9 talks from geological surveys of United Kingdom, Spain, Greece, Norway and Hessen. We focused on current best practices in urban geohazards management, its mitigation, monitoring and incorporation into urban planning. Both webinars attracted large number of attendees worldwide. As a main result we created a popularizing animated video, describing advantages of geology in urban planning and advantages of cooperation between geological surveys and cities. The video was created in 5 languages (Czech, Norwegian, English, German and Italian) to capture largest possible audience. Both surveys gained significant knowledge throughout the whole initiative.
