Description
“Artificial Realities” was framed by the confrontation between rationality and efficiency related to virtual technologies applied to the architectural design process. The experience of architectural space and the state of contemplation and delight of the architectonic exercise will have a digital materialization. Since the fields of research of both groups coincide, ISTAR and NMBU will work together this core theme. By the end of the term, the results will be shared by publications. ISTAR (previously known as ADETTI) was one of the pioneer research labs in the world to use Mixed Reality
Summary of the results
The initiative explores new Mixed and Artificial Realities, namely virtual and augmented reality, and questions how they can help to visualize and understand the architecture and urban space. With such technologies all stakeholders in the built sector will be empowered with tool that reduces the disparities existing to the ones that understand and the ones that do not understand the representation code of architecture. In fact, several studies have shown that non-designer faces huge difficulties in interpreting the architecture representation done by architects which often lead to misunderstanding of the designs and consequently to the lack of satisfaction upon the environment after the construction. This was done by: an open exhibition was all community could test technologies and talk with the creators; written papers and open website with the entire information of the initiative.
Considering the strengthening of bilateral relations this initiative enables to start a research collaboration between Iscte and NMBU in fields both universities were doing relevant work although never had collaborated before. The collaboration enabled the realization of the Exhibition and the Symposium as well as the future submission of a proposal to an European grant.
