Description

The aim of this initiative is to join a group of experts in Reykjavík, Iceland, in order to achieve the following objectives:
1 - To evaluate a modern small fishing vessel, with an automated fishing longline installed, with the purpose of assessing its use in the fishing of black scabbardfish;
2 - Assess the capacity to install in the fishing boat, equipment for collecting and transmitting data from the fishing métier, in real time;
3 - Prepare the joint application form to the EEA Grants in the Blue Growth program, with the objective of obtaining funding to bring to the Madeira island a fishing

Summary of the results

This initiative allowed the exchange and transfer of knowledge between Iceland and Portugal on fishing vessels, in a meeting that took place in Reykjavík, Iceland, from 2 to 5 September 2019.

During this study trip the following activities were implemented:


  • Evaluation of 3 Icelandic small fishing vessels, with an automated fishing longline installed, with the purpose of assessing its use in the fishing of black scabbardfish;

  • Assessment of 5 Icelandic fishing boat equipments (fishing technologies) installed on board of the Trefjar fishingboats for collecting and transmitting data from the fishing métier;

  • Observation, in real-time, of the installation and transmission of data on board the Trefjar vessels;

  • Characterization and identification of the necessities (Swot analysis) for the accomplishment of a test in the black scabbardfish fishery;

  • Preparation of the joint application form to the EEA Grants in the Blue Growth Programme, with the purpose of obtaining funding to bring to Madeira island (Portugal) a fishing vessel from Trefjar shipyards (Iceland).
