Description

The objective of the initiative is to explore the potential of the new technology (broadband echosounder) for estimation of fish size and identification of fish species. The experiments will be performed in a special experimental cage situated in the Czech Republic. The Norwegian partner will share his expert knowledge and experience, participate in field experiments, perform an analysis and contribute to the writing of a manuscript (initiative main outcome), while data processing and analyses shall be shared between both partners. The bilateral cooperation between biologically and physically

Summary of the results

The bilateral cooperation between the Promoter (the Biology Centre CAS) and the Norwegian partner the University of Oslo consisted in research activities provided in course of 3 years in the locality in South Bohemia. The cooperation proceeded via four mutual visits, workshops and joint publication of results. The researchers constructed a special experimental facility at the lake and the Norwegian partner developed and provided a special SW tool - a single-echo detector for broadband data. During mutual visits the tool was tested and tuned. In course of the following visits the tool was utilized and improved in order to gather data from experiments. Finally, as a result of 2,3 mil. observations, the desired chapter of the book ‘Methodology of monitoring fish communities in reservoirs and lakes’ was drafted. In early 2023 an institutional seminar was held at the Czech partner’s place and a prepared manuscript was published in the WATER journal (IF 3.5).

The partners declare that the cooperation shall naturally continue as the obtained data set of fish provides challenges to answer.
