The Reduta is one of Bratislava's most important cultural buildings. It has hosted several prominent business and cultural institutions, concerts, variety shows, cinema, dance evenings and restaurants since the early 1900s. Since the early 1950s, the building has also been the home of the Slovak Philharmonic.
Despite the irreplaceable position of the building in Slovak cultural life, it had not been renovated since 1919. Technically outdated equipment was still in use - long after its lifespan should have ended - and numerous monuments were in urgent need of restoration.
The building is now undergoing a complex restoration that aims to bring it into its original state. The €1.9 million in support from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway has allowed for the restoration of wall surfaces, wooden doors, windows and facings, the repair of the authentic metal railings and the restoration of a historic passenger lift in the building.
