On 18 June, the renovation works and modernisation of diagnostic and treatment facilities of the Seskine, Antakalnis and Centras policlinics were concluded. The hospitals provide medical services to 300,000 Vilnius inhabitants.

Prior to the project, the clinics battled long waiting lists and had to place a large number of patients at non-specialised children`s policlinics. Thanks to the renovation and the new organisational structure, the health facilities have increased their effectiveness and avoid unnecessary duplication of tasks at the different centres.

Specialist child health care services have been assigned to each policlinic according to its pool of expertise and experience. A wide range of child health care services are offered for children in various fields, such as child endocrinology, trauma and orthopaedics and ophthalmology, child gastroenterology, pulmonology, allergy and dermatology and child cardiology and neurology.

The policlinics` expect the project to reduce the patient load at non-specialised clinics and improve the patient transfer to the required medical services including reduced waiting time.

This project is the first to be completed among the 82 projects supported by the EEA and Norway Grants in Lithuania. Of these, 42 projects are within the priority sector for health and childcare.
