Description

The village of Mălâncrav is part of the tourist route in Mediaș - Sighișoara area. However, the potential for local development is far from being reached and the number of locals directly benefiting from cultural tourism is very low. The local Roma community is physically and socially marginalised and has no benefit in this regard at all. The creation of a cultural route through the village offers new ways of stimulating potential for the use of cultural heritage to boost tourism through with four main approaches: Firstly, a systematic process of community facilitation that includes an inventory of the local intangible heritage, creation of a participatory methodology for valorisation, training and mentoring for creating and testing small business plans; Secondly, facilitating the access of the public to the local mult-iethnic heritage through the creation of a clear route and a coherent program of live demonstrations; Thirdly, creation of a local network that will bring together existing attractions and newly created heritage demonstration points, a permanent exhibition and locations that are attractive but not yet open to the public; Fourthly, promotion of socially equal chances for the local Roma community.

Summary of project results

The project aimed to capitalize elements of the intangible heritage in Malancrav village for the benefit of the local community and Roma craftsmen. In order to ensure the sustainable development of the local community the project included the creation of a cultural route to showcase the intangible and tangible multi-ethnic local heritage. The route consists in 15 attraction points where tourists can see both the historical monuments of the village and the way of living in traditional households. The following outputs were delivered resulting from the main activities financed by the project: five business plans, a methodology for heritage capitalization, workshops, 8 documentary movies about local traditions.
