Mind the gap – funding now available for gender equality in Portugal

While Portugal has made some strides towards improving gender equality in recent years, inequalities between men and women remain deeply entrenched. Funding is now available for projects that promote research on gender issues.

While the number of women in the workforce in Portugal is one of the highest in Europe, the gender pay gap remains high at 21.2%. Women are also over-represented in part-time and lower paid jobs.

To address these challenges, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway are providing €2.5 million through the EEA Grants to the Portuguese gender equality programme. The programme is offers significant potential for collaboration and project partnerships between Portugal and the three donor countries.  

What types of activities are eligible?

Examples of activities that may be funded include:

  • Research studies
  • Awareness raising and training
  • Mentoring and coaching
  • Exchange of good practice between project partners
  • Seminars and conferences

The total amount available in this first call for proposals is €390 233. The minimum grant amount is €170 000 and with the maximum amount €300 000.

Who can apply?

Any Portuguese public or private, commercial or non-commercial or non-governmental organisation may apply for funding. Intergovernmental organisations operating in Portugal are also eligible.

Project partnerships with organisations from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway are strongly encouraged.

When is the application deadline?

Deadline for applications is 12 April 2014.
