The launch of the EEA and Norway Grants in Romania attracted wide interest, with close to 200 representatives from ministries, local authorities, NGOs, private companies, and media participating at the event. The presentations included information on the 22 programmes and detailed insight on the types of eligible activities, application procedures, grants sizes and the expected timeline for when it will be possible to apply for funding.
Urge for action
The Romanian Minister for European Funds, Eugen Teodorovici, encouraged all the programme operators to end their preparatory work as soon as possible and to start implementation of the projects.
In her opening remarks the Ambassador, Tove Bruvik Westberg, shared Teodorovici’s eagerness to get the projects going. She also underlined the bilateral aspects of the programmes by emphasising the partnerships between public and private entities in Romania and the donor states. In 12 programmes different Norwegian public entities participate as donor programme partners.
The second largest beneficiary state
The allocation of around €306 million makes Romania the second largest beneficiary state of the Grants. The funding is channelled through 22 programmes, tackling key issues such as justice and home affairs, environmental protection, health care, and improving the situation of the Roma population.
