Description

Shortage of quality childcare places is a major concern for many of the inhabitants in the Romanian Reghin Municipality. Through support from the EEA grants, the project will establish and operate a day care centre providing education for children aged between 0-3 years. The project aims to improve the balance between professional and family life and increase the degree of awareness with regard to the gender issues, through enabling women to enter the labour market. The project will allocate a set number of childcare places to children from the Roma population. The target group consists of families with children aged between 0-3 years, including Roma families. 25 children of which 7 are Roma will attend the nursery. The centre will provide day care for children between 0-3 years, including early child education programs appropriate to the age, needs, development potential and the peculiarities of children.

Summary of project results

Reghin municipality, in partnership with the City of Ungheni, the Republic of Moldova and the Orthodox Philanthropy Alba-Iulia - the Reghin branch –set up a new daycare center for 25 children in order to increase the number of social services for children aged 0-3 years and to improve the balance between work and family life and to reduce the social disparity by having a minimum of 7 Roma children. The value of the grant was of 330.992 euro At the center, children will receive both care and education centered on the specific needs of each child. The activity of the center is focused on the child’s right to play as a form of learning, which is a method of achieving educational approaches at an early age, as well as a method of stimulating the child's capacity and creativity and developing the child’s openness to freedom of choice, according to their own needs. Besides activities regarding the refurbishing and furnishing of the daycare center, the promoter held 2 seminars and 3 workshops promoting gender equality and raising awareness in what regards discriminatory practices at the local level. The promoter had some delays in getting the permits for refurbnishing the center, but they made up for the delay and finished the center in the alloted time. They also had some difficulties in gathering the children, but the center is now operating at full capacity.
