The support will go to projects focusing on citizen participation, good governance and transparency as well as combating intolerance and discrimination and empowering and providing services for vulnerable groups. A specific focus is placed on children and youth and on strengthening capacity of civil society in Poland. The fund is operated by the Stefan Batory Foundation and can be used until April 2016.
Promoting European values
The NGO fund was launched at a press conference in Warsaw on 25 June in the presence of representative of the Polish government, NGOs and the Norwegian ambassador to Poland. The ambassador emphasised the important role of civil society in strengthening democracy and human rights and to defend and promote common European values.
There will be a larger launch of the programme in September with participation from NGOs from the donor states. Partnerships between Polish and donor state NGOs in the projects are encouraged.

NGO programmes in 15 countries
This is the second round of financial support to Polish NGOs from the EEA and Norway Grants. In the period 2004-2009, a total of over € 37 million was allocated to over 600 projects.
Poland is the largest beneficiary of the EEA and Norway Grants and the NGO programme in Poland is the largest of the 15 NGO programmes. Read more about support for civil society in 15 beneficiary states here and find out about calls for proposals.
