New round of grants for social inclusion projects in Slovakia

On 15 December, €800,000 in project funding was made available to Slovak NGOs working within the field of social inclusion.

The €1.5 million NGO fund has been established to strengthen the capacity of NGOs offering support to children, youth and families at risk of social exclusion. Under this call for applications, Slovak civil society organisations can apply for support for the following activities:

- Supporting families and children in need and/or in crisis situations;
- Supporting young people and adults in encouraging further personal growth and development; and
- Institutional development of NGOs supplying social and community services for children, youth and families at risk of social exclusion.

Grants are available in the range of €30,000 to €100,000. Applicants can submit their project proposals to fund intermediary the SOCIA Foundation until 16 February 2009.

The NGO fund for social inclusion is one of three NGO funds established in Slovakia with support from the EEA and Norway Grants. The total amount earmarked to NGOs through the three block grants for NGOs working within the fields of environmental protection, human rights and social inclusion is €5 million. Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway are contributing with 85 percent and Slovakia 15 percent.
