Open call for Slovak-Ukraine cooperation projects

Slovakia launched today a call for cross-border cooperation and regional development projects by NGOs and public administrations in the East Slovak regions bordering Ukraine.

The €1.9 million fund "Opening doors to new arenas of co-operation" is targeted at developing the poor regions, districts and municipalities in East Slovakia bordering with Ukraine. A total €625,000 is now available to support a vast array of activities in the border region, such as capacity building and educational activities, workshops, research on regional development and exchanges of experts.

Slovak NGOs and public bodies can apply for project support in the range of €5000 to €150,000. Applications can be submitted to fund manager Civil Society Development Foundation until 8 December 2008 and the selected projects will be announced on 15 January 2009.

The call will support projects targeted at the following areas:

  • developing and strengthening professional capacities of districts and municipalities in the border region aimed at cross-border co-operation as the tool for the sustainable development of poor East Slovak regions;
  • developing the role of private sector and cross-sector co-operation in local and regional sustainable development of the Slovak-Ukraine cross border region;
  • strengthening the participation of minority groups in society; and
  • cross-border project co-operation on the local, regional and national level between entities from Slovakia and Ukraine to promote sustainable development in the target region.
