The Cittadella is a small fortified town located on the island of Gozo, Malta’s sister island. It dates back to the Bronze Age and is on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.

The master plan for the restorations, made possible by a €229,000 grant from Iceland, Lichtenstein and Norway, contains several different measures, including restoring key buildings and public spaces as well as building a visitors’ centre.

The restoration of the Cittadella has been a national priority for Malta because of its educational and cultural heritage values. It is also important for the tourism industry on Gonzo as more than 80% of the foreign tourists that visits the island also visit the Cittadella.
