Description

In Mures County, developing skills among local youth is likely to increase their chances of finding a job and securing their social and economic inclusion. The main objective of the project is to increase access to education among young people at risk, by creating two community centres in Targu Mures City and Tarnaveni City. The project provides job training courses (cleaner, flower decorator, landscape gardener, and bookbinder), but also career counselling, remedial education and leisure activities, such as art therapy, health education, IT education and foreign languages. Through 'Safety at School' campaigns, the project aims to make children and youth aware of how to best prevent of victimization, juvenile delinquency and personal safety in 10 different schools in Targu Mures city, as well as 7 different schools in Tarnaveni city. 3000 youth (main target group) and children will be involved in the project activities.

Summary of project results

The project aimed to increase the accessibility to education of youths at risk, including Roma from Târgu Mures and Târnăveni by organizing two Community Lifelong Learning Centres in Targu Mures and Târnăveni, in order to facilitate participation at integrated personal development, professional training activities, developing competences and independent living skills with the involvement of specialists, volunteers and parents. During the implementation period both community centres were equipped in order to provide a proper environment for 210 youths and 210 children to develop their skills and improve their educational track through remedial activities and non-formal and leisure activities. In order to address activities to all the beneficiaries, about 50 teachers and specialists attended Romani language courses and scholar mediators in order to be able to get involved in activities with Roma people without any language barrier. 117 youths from both locations attended certificated professional trainings held by project promoter and its partner, like cleaning agent, florist, floral decorator, cook adjuvant. 65 volunteers which were involved in activities with the beneficiaries were trained previously as youth workers, arts and crafts specialists and social mediators. During the summer 110 youths and children attended summer camps and 200 children were involved daily activities in the two centres. The project had an integrated approach by organing counselling activities for 233 parents in order to identify the main issues which lead to school dropout and to find proper measures to address it. 5 specialists from the project promoter`s team attended a Feuerstein training course which helped them gained another approach in working with youths and children at risk. An important milestone in this project was organizing an awareness campaign called ”Success and independence in safety” which reached to 623 pupils from Mures rural area, 2052 pupils from Targu Mures and 1334 pupils from Târnăveni. Another important output was a drafting a research study in Mures county identifying the necessity of social services within this county and drafting a needs map of youths at risk at county level. Altogether the project had an important impact in Mures County and helped multiple beneficiaries to improve their social status and to find a job.
