The newly reconstructed unit was opened by Czech Deputy Minister of Health Martin Plíšek and Jens Eikaas, Norway`s Ambassador to the Czech Republic.

The new hospital unit consists of two beds that are totally isolated. It has its own personnel, and separate air conditioning with special filters. This enables the Thomayer University Hospital to treat children with serious and highly contagious diseases without the risk of other patients being infected.

The new isolation unit is the only one in the Czech Republic for children with infectious and highly contagious diseases. It is available for child patients from the entire country, and the capacity of the unit is 100 patients a year. The walls have been painted with fairytale motifs.
