The high number of applications received shows a great interest in the development of new projects and partnerships under the EEA Grants in Slovakia.
Close to €350,000 in seed money was made available on 17 July to applicants from public administration and non-governmental organisations, with small grants due to be awarded this autumn to applicants aiming to develop full-fledged proposals for the €32.5 million call for proposals planned in Slovakia during spring 2008.
The grants will support the preparation of projects within the priority sectors for academic research, health and childcare and protection of the environment, with more specific focus areas detailed for the two latter sectors.
At the submission deadline, a total of 314 project applications had been received, with the main share of applications coming within protection of the environment, followed by health and childcare and academic research. While most applicants are municipalities, the list also included universities, NGOs and other institutions.
The overall goal of the seed money fund is to support the development of innovative and complex projects and facilitate the establishment of new partnerships for project cooperation with institutions from the donor states Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.
