“It is very moving to be here today together with survivors of Auschwitz-Birkenau. Auschwitz-Birkenau is part of our common history, and it is important that we never forget what happened here,” says Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg who was present at the commemoration event.
It is estimated that between 1.2 and 1.6 million people died in the concentration camp and that about 650 000 people survived.
“There is anti-Semitism in Europe still today, and combatting this ideology is a responsibility we all must take. We must also continue the discussion about our common values in a time where Europe once again has been struck by terror committed by people with extreme views, “ the Norwegian prime minister says.
