The 2-day cultural event was part of the EEA and Norway Grants supported "Home for Cooperation" project on Cyprus. An educational and cultural centre is being set up in the UN-controlled buffer zone to bring together the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities on the island.
The December music, poetry and film jam featured several local artists from both the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot communities. Among the events were performances by an intercommunal jazz band and screenings of the 3 films On the way to school (directed by Orhan Eskiköy and Özgür Doðan), The Lemon Tree (directed by Eran Riklis) and Sari Soldiers (directed by Julie Bridgham), followed by panel discussions organised in cooperation with the International Centre for Transitional Justice (ICTJ) and the Peace Research Institute in Oslo (PRIO).
The Home for Cooperation is operated by the Association for Historical Dialogue and Research and is supported with a €750 000 grant from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. The centre will be established in one of the historical buildings (pictured) in the buffer zone and renovation work is planned to start first quarter of 2010.
