Looking for a quality traineeship in Brussels?

The secretariat of the EEA and Norway Grants (The Financial Mechanism Office FMO) offers 10-month long traineeships for graduates wanting to learn more about grants management. Deadline for applications: 16 March 2015

The Financial Mechanism Office (FMO) manages the EEA Grants and Norway Grants on behalf of Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. The Grants contribute to reducing disparities in the European Economic Area and to strengthening bilateral relations between the three donor states and the 16 beneficiary states in Central and Southern Europe. Key areas of support are environment, climate change, civil society, health, research, scholarships and the justice sector. The FMO handles the day-to-day operations and is in close contact with the donor and beneficiary states. The FMO has 53 staff members and is a separate entity from the EFTA Secretariat in Brussels.

The aim of the traineeships is to provide junior civil servants and other qualified applicants with opportunities for training and familiarisation with the work and functions of the FMO.

Field of work

The trainees will be assigned to a specific unit of the FMO according to the academic field of specialisation, personal preferences and career objectives.

Posts are offered within the following units and fields of work:

- Legal
- Finance
- Communication
- Results and Evaluation
- Sector
- Country

Qualifications

  • University degree within law, economics, statistics, political science, international relations or other relevant and equivalent experience.
  • Work experience of 1-2 years in a governmental service and knowledge of the EEA agreement would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of standard office IT applications (Microsoft Office).
  • An analytical mind with ability to draft good quality documents in English.
  • A flexible and motivated team player and capable of taking on a wide variety of tasks, both complex and more basic.
  • Fluency in both spoken and written English. 
  • Working knowledge of French is an advantage.

Ten month placements

The selected trainees will join the FMO on 1 September 2015. The traineeship will last until 30 June 2016.

All applications must be submitted via the EFTA e-recruitment tool. The traineeships are remunerated, and the FMO will provide the selected trainees with accommodation.
