Green innovation: Opportunities for Norwegian enterprises

Green innovation is a new priority under the EEA and Norway Grants. €100 million is set aside for green innovation in the period to 2014, an investment that creates new opportunities for Norwegian enterprises to cooperate with businesses in seven countries.

Close to 200 participants attended a recent conference in Oslo to learn more about the Norway Grants’ support for green innovation. Norwegian enterprises were well represented. Through separate network meetings, they were given the opportunity to establish contact with representatives from the seven countries that have prioritised green innovation: Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary.

Green industry innovation is a business development programme targeting the private sector, in particular small and medium-sized enterprises. Programmes will focus on improving the environmental credentials of existing industries and encouraging eco-innovation and green entrepreneurship.

In order to take advantage of Norwegian experiences and technologies, programmes will be based on partnership projects between businesses in the recipient countries and Norwegian businesses. Enterprises and other stakeholders in the beneficiary countries can apply for support through the Norway Grants, and projects involving Norwegian partners will be prioritised. Calls for funding will be announced in 2012 and 2013.

Innovation Norway has broad experience in developing initiatives benefiting enterprises and plays a central part in the green innovation programmes.
