Grants available for young Hungarian researchers

Close to €2.7 million in funding was made available on 15 August to young Hungarian researchers. Applications can be submitted until 15 October 2008.

An aging research community and the tendency for young researchers to move abroad are key challenges for Hungary. To boost an active research community of young persons a research fund has been set up with 85% grant support from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. Fund manager Hungarian Scientific Research Fund (OTKA) is contributing 15% of the fund's costs.

The fund will re-grant to projects carried out by Hungarian researchers under the age of 40. Grants in the range of €32,000 to €128,000 will be awarded to support basic scientific research on a full-time basis in the fields of environment, sustainable development, human resources, cultural heritage, and health and childcare. Proposals can be submitted to fund manager Hungarian Scientific Research Fund (OTKA) until 15 October 2008.

Further details including eligibility requirements and selection criteria can be found in the open call text and on the web pages of fund manager OTKA.
