Grants available for Hungarian civil society

NGOs can now apply for grant support under the Hungarian NGO fund, which launched its second open call on 1 February 2009.

More than €2 million has now been made available to civil society organisations in Hungary, through the NGO fund's second open call for proposals. Grants will be awarded to innovative projects aiming to strengthen Hungarian civil society through local initiatives, with a special focus on rural areas and disadvantaged communities.

Hungarian civil organisations, alliances, employers' organisations, trade unions, and foundations can apply for grants ranging from €5,000 to €25,000, and the NGO fund will provide up to 90% of the project costs. Eligible applicants can apply for support for projects within the four following thematic areas:

• Environment protection and sustainable development;
• Civil liberties and capacity building;
• Social cohesion, health and childcare; and
• Cultural heritage.

Applications can be submitted to the fund intermediary, the Hungarian Environmental Partnership Foundation, until 1 April 2009. Applications must be submitted online, through the website www.norwegcivilalap.hu. For more information about the application process, eligible activities and thematic areas, see the open call text or the fund intermediary's website.
