The €10 million Czech NGO fund was established in 2006, as the first NGO fund supported by the EEA and Norway Grants. Following the announcement of the fund`s third call for proposals, Czech NGOs now have a final opportunity to apply for grant support for activities within the following priority sectors:
- Multicultural environment in communities;
- Strengthening human rights and the fight against discrimination and racism;
- Supporting children and young people with specific problems; and
- Environmental protection.
Eligible applicants can apply for grants between €20,000 and €50,000, for projects lasting 12 months. Completed applications must be submitted to fund intermediary Nadace Rozvoje Obèanské Spoleènosti (NROS) by 9 March 2009. The NGO fund has already made available grant support to Czech NGOs through two previous calls for proposals, and a wide range of projects are now underway across the Czech Republic. In the Czech Znojmo region, the NGO fund is supporting a project to provide victims of domestic violence and their families with support and assistance. The project also aims to raise awareness about domestic violence through lectures and publicity material.
A grant has also been awarded to establish a centre for multicultural education in the city of Jihlava. The centre will provide improved services and education to minority groups, in order to encourage better integration of the Roma population and other minorities in Jihlava.
