Memoranda of Understanding - Norway Grants
Norwegian foreign minister Jonas Gahr Støre and Estonian foreign minister Urmas Paet signed the agreement on the distribution of funds until 2014 in Oslo today.
"The results from the previous programme period were very good. The EEA and Norway Grants have been greeted with enthusiasm and inspired a great deal of activity among Norwegian partners as well. This has also strengthened the political dialogue and cooperation between Norway and Estonia," says Støre.
Focus on environment
Environmental protection is the largest priority for Estonia in the period 2009-14. More than a quarter of the total funding (€12.9 million) is earmarked for programmes on integrated marine and inland water management and green industry innovation.
The second largest priority area will be public health initiatives with almost a quarter of the funding, providing €8.9 million to improve access to and quality of health services. Other areas of support will be research and scholarships, cultural and natural heritage and civil society.
Bilateral cooperation
Under the agreement for 2009-14, the bilateral dimension is strengthened with more strategic cooperation being established at the programme level. Ten public entities from the donor states are foreseen as programme partners with Estonian counterparts.
