Situated in the idyllic woods near Pasłęk Lake, the Voivodeship Rehabilitative Hospital for Children treats young patients aged between 3 and 18. More than 5000 children are treated at the hospital every year, which is renowned for its treatment of children with asthma and other breathing difficulties. The hospital has long been struggling with high energy use and a faulty ventilation system, posing a risk for the young patients.

With support from the EEA Grants, the hospital is now insulating the entire hospital building, modernising the central heating and gas boilers, as well as upgrading the ventilation system. The hospital has been looking into possibilities for more energy friendly solutions for several years, and the current renovation works will reduce the hospital`s energy output with over 70%.

"We are delighted to be able to make these changes to the hospital", said hospital director Roman Lewandowski. "Not only will we be able to make the hospital better insulated, and more comfortable for our patients, we will also save large amounts of energy," he added.

The project at the Voivodeship Rehabilitative Hospital is one of more than 80 projects supported by the EEA and Norway Grants to improve energy efficiency in Polish public buildings.
