A series of cultural events, 'Connecting communities', will be held in Norway throughout 2009 to inform about the close to 150 cultural heritage projects Norway supports in Central and Southern Europe. Partnership projects are encouraged under the EEA and Norway Grants, and the 35 cultural heritage projects that are implemented together with Norwegian organisations will be highlighted at the events.
The Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage is the initiator of the 'Connecting communities' events, which aim to raise awareness about the cooperation between cultural operators in Norway and abroad. Norwegian entities involved in partnership projects will be invited to host events in their local communities, and grants will be available to support their implementation. The European lead partner in the project is welcome to participate, though this is not a requisite.
The Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage is running a brainstorming session with the Norwegian partners on 9 January in Oslo, to generate ideas for events and inform about the available support. Norway has declared 2009 as the year of cultural heritage. In addition to cultural heritage in Norwegian everyday life, the spotlight will be on the country's contribution to protecting European cultural heritage through the EEA and Norway Grants.
