Bent Hamer’s films, a football dance performance, Roma music and Norwegian folk tales are among the cultural experiences on offer in Prague this spring and summer.
Film
The interest for Norwegian film is big in Czech Republic. This spring, a week dedicated to Norwegian film was arranged in Prague. The presented titles were produced between 1929 and 2006, including Laila, Jakten, Insomnia, Hustruer, Salmer fra kjøkkenet, Reprise and Kalde spor. The week was organised as an extra bilateral activity of the Czech National Film Archive and Norwegian National Library, as part of the project on digitalisation of Czech film heritage.
Dance
In June, the Norwegian dance company Jo Strømgren kompani will present 'A Dance Tribute to the Art of Football' in Prague. This performance has been an inspiration for the Czech-Norwegian collaboration project 'A Dance Tribute to the Art of Ping Pong', which will be presented at the festival Tanecvalmez. Another dance project is the collaboration between Bærum Kulturhus and the Czech Spitfire Company who have created 'Sniper's Lake' – a performance about refugees and their race towards a better life. Additionally, a dance performance by the Norwegian choreographer Monica E. Hersadt with her crew herStay can be experienced at the Prague Museum Night festival in mid June.
Music
As a part of the work on inclusion of the Roma population in the Czech Republic, the Roma festival Khamoro aims to show the richness of Roma culture. Khamoro was arranged for the 17th year in a row in Prague in May.
Theatre
The Norwegian company Teater Innlandet in cooperation with Czech and Icelandic partners have an interesting joint project called 'Comparing several Puppet Theatre Dramatizations of a Norwegian Folk-tale'. As a part of the project, the premiere of the performance 'East of the Sun, West of the Moon' inspired by a Nowegian folk tale will be played at Svandovo theatre in Prague on 14 June.
