Description

Introduction of CNG:

CNG stands for "Compressed Natural Gas", which is compressed to 200 bar (20MPa). CNG consists mainly of methane (over 95%) with a small amount of other gases. Due to the size of the molecule, it contains the most energy per unit volume of all available commercial fuels, including pure hydrogen. Methane, as the main component of CNG, is suitable for heating, domestic water heating and is currently increasingly used as a fuel in road, rail and shipping transport. It is not possible to contaminate the soil and water with it , as it is lighter than air, in the event of a leak it disperse in the air. When CNG alone is burned, significantly less pollutants, nitrogen oxides, NO x, carbon dioxide, CO2, particulate matter and carcinogens are released into the air, which makes it an alternative ecological fuel.

The aim of the project is to build a CNG filling station, i.e. building the relevant CNG infrastructure in the region Kysuce and making the CNG car rental service available. By "renting" demonstration vehicles the project wants to bring closer the benefits of using CNG motorization in practice. Demonstration vehicles will be provided to surrounding companies to test and compare the economic and environmental benefits of switching to CNG motorization. Different types of CNG-powered vehicles will be available , and also available to cover a wide range of applications in different service areas in the industrial park and the nearby region. The project implementation will consist of 6 logical units: Administrative launch of the project, Provision of documents for the project solution of CNG technology, Land settlement, Installation of CNG technology, Public procurement and Marketing activities.

Summary of project results

The implementation of the project was carried out in accordance with the contract - grant offer. Some activities and milestones were delayed due to the processing of building permits. However, all activities and milestones were met by the given project completion date. Any changes or problems were communicated with both the project partners and the donor. The project aimed to address several challenges, primarily related to the processing of building permits, which caused delays in achieving milestones such as construction works, installation of CNG technology, and the final conference. These delays impacted several project activities. Additionally, there were challenges related to the transfer of funds between budget items due to differences in the actual costs of CNG vehicles compared to the approved budget.

The project involved several key activities and outputs. Firstly, the development and operation of a CNG filling station were successfully completed by the end of April 2024. This included the installation of CNG technology and the handover of the acceptance protocol. Secondly, the project launched a promotional campaign for the rental of CNG vehicles during the final project conference. Thirdly, the project aimed to reduce CO2 emissions by promoting the use of CNG vehicles. By the end of the project, the CNG vehicles had saved approximately 45,217.02 kg of CO2 emissions over five months. Lastly, the project held several conferences, including the final conference on April 29, 2024, and conducted a marketing campaign to promote the benefits of CNG.

The project achieved significant outcomes and impacts. It successfully reduced CO2 emissions by promoting the use of CNG vehicles, achieving a monthly reduction of 9,043.40 kg of CO2. The project established a fully operational CNG filling station, which began serving CNG vehicles from May 2024. The project also promoted the use of CNG vehicles through rental programs and marketing campaigns, benefiting both the environment and vehicle users. All project activities were completed by the deadline of April 30, 2024, including construction works, installation of CNG technology, and holding the final conference.
