Description
The Slovak Mining Museum in Banská Štiavnica (UNESCO Heritage Site) is a multidisciplinary public institution caring for a unique fund of historical buildings, sites, and collections, which are part of the historical, cultural, and natural heritage of Slovak mining regions. The Museum presents and mediates the exceptional value of this heritage to its visitors – approximately 150,000 per year. The Museum’s activities also include conducting scientific research, and organising conferences, exhibitions, educational programmes, etc. However, the Museum''s existing portfolio of activities does not make use of the potential offered by interconnecting cultural and historical themes with the environmental problems arising from the ongoing climate crisis. The Museum has a promising capacity to bring together people of research, education, art, and the public in a shared effort to address the current global climate crisis and seek solutions to its mitigation. The main goal of the GREEN MISSION project is to raise awareness of people''s shared responsibility for the critical state of the Earth. Our aim is to strengthen their sensitivity and ability to respond creatively to changes in the environment, including the global climate change. To achieve this goal, a "green platform" will be created for museum and gallery activities in Central and Eastern Europe, highlighting the risks of climate change.
