Description

This  Project will contribute to more intensive and interactive education of causes of the climate change in the school. The Project aims at theoretical and practical measures to mitigate and adapt to climate change. Integration of theory and practice of climate change, its causes and impacts into the educational process. Modern elements of teaching and experimental methods will be incorporate into curriculum. Teachers, through newly created teaching materials on climate change and its implications, will provide students with comprehensive knowledge that they will be able to apply in their lives and contribute to raising awareness of the need for climate and environmental protection. 

Further activity of this Project is the construction of the ClimaEdu Center, which will serve to raise awareness of the climate change and its consequences and present measures to prevent or mitigate climate change. The ClimaEdu Center will provide practical training for students and general public.  

Furthermore, a new pond with rainwater will be constructed, which will ensure the circulation of water in nature and serve students and, of course, the general public for the practical teaching of the consequences of climate change.

Bilateral Partner – School in Vardø in Norway will cooperation in implementation of this Project. Project Partners will share the information on climate change in Norway and Slovakia what is the added value of this Project. Bilateral Partner will attend online course aimed at climate change awareness provided by Project Promoter.

Summary of project results

The Project aimed to address following challenges in the field of climate change adaptation and mitigation:

  • systematic education of students on impact of climate change and measures to mitigate and adapt to climate change with focus on rainwater use and greenery,
  • implement hard measures on climate change adaptation being in synergy with soft educational activities to support outdoor education, water management and share of greenery.

Following Project activities were implemented within the Project:

  • environmental education through creating of thematic worksheets,
  • building educational rainwater-storage pond,
  • building outdoor educational area,
  • construction of new pond to retain rainwater,
  • planting of greenery with anti-erosion and melliferous effect,
  • outdoor education and awareness raising activities on climate change in the outdoor educational area such as outdoor lab-work, demonstration experiments, emotional experience and walkways.

Overall, 3 physical climate change responsive measures were carried out in school and school campus, about 800 students participated the awareness raising campaign on climate change mitigation and adaptation and 10 open access education materials were created.

The Project reached more than 500 persons selfreporting having more climate friendly behaviour due to implemented Project activities with impact mainly on children and public as beneficiaries.

Summary of bilateral results

Bilateral Partner, Vardø School from Norway, participated online meetings organized by the Slovak Promoter to share data and information on the impacts of climate change in Norway. He was involved in educational process with focus on incorporation of climate change topic into school curriculum. For this purpose, several educational materials such as presentation and worksheets were created in English.
