Description

The Pre-defined Project “Climate change and environment education centre (Living Lab) in Dropie” (hereinafter referred to as the “PDP”) is implemented by the Slovak Environment Agency.

The PDP aims to create a complex educational centre that shall ensure the acquisition of relevant knowledge and skills needed to promote and implement climate mitigation and adaptation measures and community outreach. This includes providing the relevant, digestible information, knowledge and skills to negotiate, plan and implement necessary mitigation and adaptation measures for relevant stakeholders on municipal level. An indoor and outdoor Living Lab with practical demonstrations of mitigation and adaptation measures will be established as a mix of new and traditional measures, mainly for pupils and students.

The following work packages are planned:

- Work package 1: Living lab - outdoor measures (adaptation measures WATER, GREEN adaptation measures, adaptation measures COMMUNICATIONS, mitigation measures SOLAR ENERGY, mitigation measures INFRASTRUCTURE),

- Work package 2: Living Lab - indoor measures (project documentation for Living Lab, realization of mitigation and adaptation measures - photovoltaic panels, heat pump, use of traditional materials, intelligent measuring systems, recuperation etc.),

- Work package 3: Living Lab - soft measures (4 _Youth Climate Change Living Lab, education program on climate change adaptation and mitigation measures for kindergartens, elementary schools and secondary schools, methodological manual for schools, practical guidelines , workshops for local decision-makers etc.).

Main target groups of the PDP are pupils and students and representatives of local authorities.

The two Donor Project Partners are involved into the PDP - Norwegian Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research and the Municipality of Trondheim. The Project Partners will cooperate in elaboration of the educational program and above mentioned documents.

Summary of project results

The Project aimed to address following challenges in the field of climate change adaptation and mitigation:

  • systematic education of students and other people on impact of climate change and measures to mitigate and adapt to climate change with focus on waste, energy savings, water retention and greenery,
  • implement hard measures on climate change adaptation being in synergy with soft educational activities to reach energy savings, rainwater retention, biodiversity, bee colonies and share of greenery.

Following Project activities were implemented within the Project:

  • environmental education through methodological guidance for extramural evironmental education focused mainly on mitigation and adaptation to climate change energy saving, water retention, green infrastructure, etc.,
  • trainings of experts, various conferences and seminars,
  • preparation of educational programmes focused on presentation and dissemination of positive examples and implementations for village municipalities and the public,
  • water implementation - domestic waste water treatment plant, root biological purifer, rain water containers, bioremediation, irrigation system, self-watering flower pots,
  • green implementation - rain garden, green wall and roof, laying strips, planted trees and resistant plants,
  • communication implementation - new paths with waterproof materials, extensive beds,
  • solar energy implementation - photovoltaic stands for bicycles - charging stations, biodynamic lightning,
  • infrastructure implementation - climatic playground,
  • education centre - reconstruction of the building to energy passive building (photovoltaic panels, heat pump, use of traditional materials, intelligent measuring systems)

Overall, 7 physical external climate change responsive measures were carried out in the area and almost 1,400 students participated the educational workshops and activities.

The Project reached 3 training courses co-organised by donor state and beneficiary state entities and 1,500 people selfreporting having more climate friendly behaviour.
