Description
There are three objectives in the Project: firstly, a shift towards a more climate friendly behaviour among all students and employees of the school and inhabitants of the municipality over the course of the next 2 years. The second objective is the implementation of 4 physical measures on school property as a response to climate change and their further use in educational processes. The third objective is reaching 50 % of students and school employees commuting to school by bicycle on a regular basis by 2022. The main activities are the following: improvement of bicycle parking facilities, construction of rainwater retention system, construction of a functional outdoor eco-classroom, tree planting, creation of a school mobility plan, awareness raising campaign on climate and sustainable mobility.
The Bilateral Project Partner - Norwegian Cyclists’ Federation will contribute significantly with its expertise to the quality of the Project deliverables. The Partner’s experts will be involved in the creation of the school mobility plan, design of the bicycle parking facilities and the awareness raising campaign. The Partner will also arrange a visit of a Norwegian teachers who will share their experience among the local teachers.
The three Slovak Project Partners – the NGO Cyklokoalícia, the NGO Krok do budúcnosti and the Municipality of Borský Mikuláš will be involved in the implementation of some of the physical measures, in coordination of volunteers in assisting in the whole awareness raising campaign.
Summary of project results
The Project aimed to address following challenges in the field of climate change adaptation and mitigation:
- systematic education of students on impact of climate change and measures to mitigate and adapt to climate change with focus on green mobility,
- implement hard measures on climate change adaptation being in synergy with soft educational activities to support low-emission way of transport and share of greenery.
Following Project activities were implemented within the Project:
- Creation of a school mobility plan,
- Improvement of bicycle parking facilities,
- Construction of rainwater retention system including 2 surface tanks integrated into the existing roof drainage system,
- Construction of a functional outdoor eco-classroom,
- Tree planting,
- Awareness raising campaign on climate and sustainable mobility.
Overall, 4 physical climate change responsive measures were carried out in school and school campus, more than 200 students participated the awareness raising campaign and 2 open access education materials were created.
The Project reached about 900 persons selfreporting having more climate friendly behaviour due to implemented Project activities with impact mainly on students and general public as beneficiaries.
Summary of bilateral results
Bilateral partner, Syklistenes Landsforening (Norwegian Cyclists’ Federation) shared with Slovak Partners its own experience in active cycling of children and citizens as way of sustainable mobility.
