The aim of the Project is to raise awareness of mitigation and adaptation to climate change in the educational process.
The measures in the Project are the following: building a green eco-pedagogical area on the school terrace, creating a vegetation area with climbing plants, setting up a light construction on the terrace for climbing plants up to the 1st floor, installation of aboveground reservoirs for collecting rainwater, building a green walkway at the entrance to the school building, creating a vegetation wall from climbing plants to increase evaporation, incorporation of mitigation and climate change issues into thematic-educational plans for primary school subjects, developing an action plan and preparation and implementation of awareness-raising activities for the general public.
There are three Slovak Project Partners involved in the Project. By working with the Parents'' Association, the school will gain new opportunities for cooperation in other projects and financial grants. The City District of Karlova Ves will be responsible for helping to implement the Project''s hard measures. By cooperating with the NGO ENVIROSVET, the school will acquire new possibilities of education in the form of cooperation with experts.
Summary of project results
The Project aimed to address following challenges in the field of climate change adaptation and mitigation:
- systematic education of students on impact of climate change by incorporation of mitigation and climate change issues into thematic-educational plans for primary schools,
- implement hard measures on climate change adaptation being in synergy with soft educational activities to support better microclimate for children, share of greenery and water management.
Following Project activities were implemented within the Project:
- incorporation of mitigation and climate change issues into thematic-educational plans for primary school subjects including Biology, Chemistry and Physics,
- construction of a green eco-pedagogical area on the school terrace, creation of a vegetation wall from climbing plants to increase evaporation, green area and educational trail, installation of aboveground water collection tanks,
- Implementation of educational activities for the general public.
Overall, 4 physical climate change responsive measures were carried out in school and school campus, more than 800 students participated the awareness raising campaign and 3 open access education materials were created.
The Project reached more than 1,500 persons selfreporting having more climate friendly behaviour due to implemented Project activities with impact mainly on students and general public as beneficiaries.
