Description
The expected result is to encourage children to build their own opinions, to gain practical experience that they will be able to evaluate and adopt the correct attitude. The school wants to be in a state of subconscious responsible pro-environmental behaviour, where students will automatically sort waste, save electricity, drink tap water, participate in increased environmental protection actions, and go more often into nature trips.
The Project activities are the following:
- Editing of the school plan within existing subject in order to incorporated environmental issues,
- Block of education of pupils in outdoor EcoClassroom,
- Material and organizational provision of teaching in outdoor EcoClassroom (worksheets and teaching materials),
- Eco pedagogical area – Gazebo,
- Increasing the proportion of greenery with the intention to reduce the extent of impermeable concrete surfaces to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change and reduce the resulting risks and damages,
- Energy saving Eco educational space for realization of practical lessons and also as a relaxation area within the school building.
- Educational materials.
The Primary Church School of John the Baptist is the Slovak Project Partner and will benefit from the Project´s result.
Summary of project results
The Project aimed to address following challenges in the field of climate change adaptation and mitigation:
- systematic education of students on impact of climate change and measures to mitigate and adapt to climate change with focus on use of solar energy and interior greenery,
- implement hard measures on climate change adaptation being in synergy with soft educational activities to support use of renewable sources of energy and better microclimate at school.
Following Project activities were implemented within the Project:
- environmental education through update of existing school plan,
- construction of outdoor eco-classroom with green roof,
- increasing the proportion of greenery,
- installation of solar photovoltaic panels on the roof of school building to generate green energy,
- Implementation of educational activities for children and public.
Overall, 3 physical climate change responsive measures were carried out in school and school campus, more than 350 students participated the awareness raising campaign and 7 open access education materials were created.
The Project reached more than 1 thousand persons selfreporting having more climate friendly behaviour due to implemented Project activities with impact mainly on pupils as beneficiaries.
