Description

The development of children in Roma excluded environment is negatively affected by their living conditions, most importantly, during first years of a child''s life. If the child does not have the necessary support in the development, is difficult to correct it later. The aim of the project is to continue working with mothers/ parents/ grandparents of children and children from the birth in their home environment through the active participation of 10 Amalkas - mentors of early intervention - mothers directly from the Roma community. Other activities are to provide counselling on the premises of the community center, to carry out educational activities for mothers/families with newborns/with babies/ preschoolers, in accompanying adolescent future moms and mothers of newborns. The aim is to actively continue to involve women from the community as mentors - more experienced mothers from families who have been involved in the activities of the organization for several years, who already have children and experiences of their own. As part of the project, the organization will prepare methodological materials for parents - leaflets on different parental topics. The project also aims to scale its activities to three other locations. The project is a continuation of a successful project implemented through the 1st and 2nd call, with both qualitative and quantitative growth.

Summary of project results

The environment of generational poverty has a negative impact on the development of children. If a child does not have the necessary support for the first 3 years of their life, it is difficult to correct those negative impacts later in life.

The goal of the project was to continue working with families from marginalized Roma communities to increase their parental competence, working with adolescents and working with children from birth in their home environment. Another goal was to develop the organization as an early intervention support center.

We continued to prepare children for classes, educate girls for a responsible approach to sexuality and parenting in the girls club , organize activities of the Montessori club for children aged 1-4 years and the club of mothers with babies aged 0-3 years. We involved women from the community as mentors in the activities. We continued to prepare and update methodological materials for parents. A total of 180 people were actively involved in the activities of the project, including 111 children and parents from marginalized Roma communities.

Project contributed to increasing the parental competences of young parents from marginalized Roma communities and the professional competences of mentors and workers with marginalized Roma communities. Working with young parents and future parents leads to the improvement of their parental competences and the subsequent more effective upbringing of children.
