Description

The project smoothly follows the successful ongoing project When I Can, I Do Sports, supported in the 1st call of the ACF program. It is based on the regular organization of sporting events involving various vulnerable groups, but due to the experience of the first project, these events will be divided into several levels and will be more specialized in selected communities. The educational part will also continue and the involvement of the created community in the organization of events will increase. The project also plans to launch a social enterprise focused on organizing sports events. The target group of the project are Roma people and people at risk of poverty, immigrants, children from children''s homes and the disabled. The project plans to involve 75 participants from the vulnerable groups.

The project partner is DORKA n.o. - a center for family renewal in Košice, which provides social services to single parents with children and young adults after the end of institutional care. DORKA n.o.''s role in the project is to mediate the participation of their clients in sports activities and educational programs.

Summary of project results

Goal of the project was enabling children and teenagers from disadvantaged backgrounds to play sports. Through this project, they too could experience what it''s like to play sports on professional sports grounds, with sports equipment. Project also connected this group of children and adolescents with the public, i.e. members of the "majority". Thanks to this connection, they gained a sense of belonging to ordinary society and the "majority" gained an insight into the life of this vulnerable group. Selected participants of the project were also involved in the very organization of sports events which improved their organizational skills. During the project, total of 16 smaller sports events for vulnerable group and the public were organized and two larger sports events where vulnerable group helped with the organization. Quality relationships were also created, which gives hope for various forms of cooperation in the future.
