Description

The Project Promoter, together with he’s partner and collaborators, through an integrative approach, aims to respond to the needs identified at the level of the marginalized communities and families in difficulty from Odorheiu Secuiesc, as well as the fulfillment of measures and indicators of the Local Development Strategy of Odorheiu Secuiesc 2018-2023.

Through this project, the Project Promoter seeks on the one hand the establishment of an Integrated Community Center by renovating and arranging spaces owned by the city that will be dedicated to long-term social services. On the other hand a series of interventions are planned, the beneficiaries being all families in vulnerable situations that live in the four distinct areas. The center will provide basic social services: personal hygiene services, social counseling and assistance services, education and training services for young people and adults, early education services. Interventions from the other distinct areas will contribute to the participation of children in the education process, to reduce the risk of school dropout, to increase the chances of access to jobs.

As an integrative part of the project is the provision of mobile medical services for the marginalized community.

Within this Partnership, the long term sustainability of social services will be assured. A total of 600 direct beneficiaries, respectively 55 specialists and volunteers will benefit from the project (teachers, medical staff, employees of institutions in the field, NGO staff).

Summary of project results

The project aimed to address the following issues or challenges: lack of early development of the basic skills needed in school, lack of supportive parenting skills, underdeveloped personal skills among adults, parents'' disinterest in children''s education, lack of a vision for the future, mobilization of own resources for daily survival.

By addressing these challenges through an integrative approach and a series of social, medical, educational and employment support services, the project aimed to enhance the inclusion of marginalized communities, improved the quality of life for communities living in vulnerable situations and empowered the roma community in Odorheiu Secuiesc.

The main objective of the project was to combat discrimination, increase the inclusion of marginalized communities and empower the roma community into Odorheiu Secuiesc through an integrative approach and a series of social, medical, educational and employment support services.

The activities of the project, the new social services launched within the project, improved the quality of life for communities living in vulnerable situations in areas as: access to education, early childhood education, parental competencies, personal hygiene, prevention of school dropout, career choices, and both physical and mental health.

Throughout the project, through 14 different activity groups, the project team managed to achieve all assumed indicators, and the results were transparently promoted and presented through mass media and social media pages. The partner City Hall of Odorheiu Secuiesc, has played and continues to play a particularly important role in the project and in the life of the Integrated Community Center on Budvar Street, Odorheiu Secuiesc.

Through this project, an Integrated Community Center was established in distinct area “Budvar” by renovating and arranging spaces owned by the city hall, dedicated to long-term social services. The established center offers basic social services, including personal hygiene services, counseling and social assistance services, education and training services for youth and adults, early education, and parental education. Interventions in other distinct areas have contributed to children''s participation in the education process, reducing the risk of school dropout, and increasing chances of access to employment. The project provided mobile medical services, and a medical office accessible to the marginalized community was set up within the Integrated Community Center.

Within the project, new successful social services were launched: the laundry, the evaluation and professional certification of adults, counseling sessions with parents, and early development activities in groups. The Integrated Community Center has started to operate according to the plans, the services  intervened in the lives of the beneficiaries by integrating various responses to existing needs. By simultaneously addressing multiple issues, the lives of families have become more balanced. Through continued interventions, the project activities contributed to shaping new attitudes among the target group, which is necessary for medium and long-term changes.

A total of 650 direct beneficiaries and 79 specialists and volunteers (teachers, medical staff, employees of relevant institutions, NGOs) benefited from the project.

Through educational, non-formal and informal programs, the importance of social services for both disadvantaged and majority families was emphasized.
