Description
The project aims at increasing the social inclusion of 450 children at risk selected from Vaslui and Galati counties (two of the poorest counties, marked by parents’ migration to western countries, unemployment and perpetual lack of education). Activities includes provision of support measures for 450 children, 80 teachers and 100 parents/tutors (e.g. counseling programs, remedial and excellence education programs, non-formal education, training for teachers). The project envisages an increase of min. 3% in the transition rates to higher education levels (primary to gymnasium and secondary to high school).
The two partners (public entities) will work together for setting the methodological framework and the development of tools, for the mobilization of the target groups and for the achievement of the indicators with maximum efficiency and effectiveness. PP (ISJ Vaslui) will ensure the general project management and will cooperate with P1 (ISJ Galati) experts to achieve the proposed goals.
Summary of project results
The counties Vaslui and Galati are two of the counties in Romania that have some of the highest numbers of disadvantaged categories in education and on the labor market. In these two counties, the majority of the school-age population is concentrated in rural areas, and are particularly affected by lack of appropriate infrastructure and staff in terms of number and qualifications. In Vaslui, Barlad, Zorleni (Vaslui Counties) and Galati, Munteni (Galati County), children have low school participation rates, poor school results, resulting in high levels of early school leaving.
The project "A School for All and for Each!" aimed to increase the social inclusion of 475 children from primary and lower secondary education from 5 schools in Vaslui and Galați counties (out of which minimum 25 with special education needs), who are at risk, focusing particularly on their inclusion in school and community, through concrete support measures.
The project implemented, in the 5 supported schools, complex vocational and psychological counselling programmes both for children with learning and behavioural difficulties and for their parents. Also, the five participating schools started educational support programmes, offering after-school support and a hot meal for a total of 636 children at risk of early school leaving and 43 children with special education needs (over the targets initially set). 179 parents of children at risk participated in parental education courses and counselling, improving their skills and awareness regarding their roles in the education of their children. 155 teachers participated in various trainings regarding non-formal education (outdoor education) and facilitated project development at classroom level. A specific component of the project targeted desegregation measures. Children have participated in teams in inter-school competitions of social-educational projects and have received prizes. 280 children have attended thematic camps, some of them participating for the first time in their lives in such camps.
As a consequence of the project, the rates of transition from primary to lower secondary level (ISCED 2) has increased with 3.13% and the rate of transition from lower secondary to upper-secondary (ISCED 3, high school) has increased by 3.21%, over the projected targets.
The benefits of the project have also been confirmed by the school teachers, who have noticed progresses in various areas of school participation: improved school results, higher participation to extra-curricular activities organised by the schools or by the local community, even participation to various educational competitions.
