Description
Overall objective of the project is:
- To improve the access of the population of Ciorasti Commune and its neighbouring villages to preventive medical services by investing in medical infrastructure, providing medical services, training medical staff and conducting information and awareness campaigns on disease prevention.
This main objective translates into real and visible long-term benefits for the 1000 people who constitute the project''s target group, who will be assisted by the project through the provision of medical services designed to help them improve their quality of life. Thus:
- 1000 people in a state of vulnerability, in rural areas, will benefit from medical services aimed at preventing the onset or worsening of chronic diseases.
- 1000 people (the same as those who will benefit from medical services) will be involved in information and awareness raising sessions on health issues in order to instil good practices in terms of personal hygiene and nutrition as well as prevention of chronic diseases
- 5 health specialists working in the locality will benefit from specialist training courses/programmes in order to improve their skills and be able to provide quality services.
- 6 information and awareness raising campaigns, 4 of them organised in the form of caravans and 2 organised in the form of health fairs, on health issues will be carried out during the 20 months in order to stimulate the development of a culture of prevention and early treatment of diseases.
Summary of project results
The main problems identified at the community level and which form the basis of the interventions targeted by the project are:
1. Reduced access of community members to medical services
2.Lack of specialist doctors and medical units near the community
3.More than 1300 people from the community are diagnosed with chronic heart disease and hypertension
4.More than 100 people were identified with endocrine diseases by the family doctor of the locality.
5. Advanced age, low level of education, low income and belonging to a discriminated group are all problems encountered. The elderly population is growing, they have the greatest need for both primary and specialized medical assistance. People with a low level of education or belonging to a minority group insufficiently access medical services, especially preventive ones, due to the lack of information about medical assistance.
6. Low birth rate.
The low level of training of the population regarding the importance of health, reinforced by the lack of specialized offices in the community, lead to an increase in cases of illnesses with contagious and chronic diseases among the population. The population does not know how to protect themselves against illness, they do not participate in public health actions, they do not show up at medical offices in the city because of the distance and the costs.
