The general objective of the project is to increase the capacity of ATU Campina Municipality to face the challenges caused by climate change, the need to adapt, as well as the need to mitigate its effects, by integrating local knowledge and raise awareness in the administration and local community. Specific objectives refer to: Knowledge development and improving the capacity to manage climate change and its impact by developing strategies and plans for mitigation and adaptation to climate change in Campina. Raising awareness regarding the challenges posed by climate change and the need for adaptation, as well as the need to mitigate its effects and the responsiveness of the local public authority in the current context, through information and employee involvement at the authority level and local public level. For implementation of Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Plan, the project considers the concrete situation at the level of Campina municipality, delivering the identification of the Campina municipality areas facing the release of high concentration of greenhouse gases and pollution with negative effects on human health, ecosystems, constructions and transport infrastructure, energy distribution, water supply and collection, drainage systems and rainwater collection networks etc. Thus, having a comprehensive image of the amplitude of this challenge, the project proposes measures to mitigate impact of climate change. These measures result from impact studies, climate change analysed scenarios and identification of risk areas for extreme phenomena, and their effects relies in many benefits to the environment, society and economy, and a sustainable local development. The proposed activities address different categories of inhabitants, with different training level.
Summary of project results
The project aimed to develop a Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Plan in the Municipality of Câmpina and, at the same time, to raise awareness with regarding the challenges caused by climate change and the need for adaptation, as well as the need to mitigate its effects, by increasing the responsiveness of the local public authority and of the general public.
The implementation of the project led to:- the realization of the Strategy and the Plan for Mitigation and Adaptation to Climate Change in the Municipality of Campina, as a strategic document that aims to increase the city''s capacity to adapt to climate change and to contribute to the achievement of climate neutrality, as an objective established at the global level, for the year 2030;- educating and informing citizens and the general public by adapting specific information and communication tools to the organizational configurations and existing decision-making mechanisms at the level of the institution, as well as to the characteristics of the target group, and using them in order to maximize the impact of the project on the general public- educating and informing citizens and the general public, public and private companies regarding climate changes and how they can have an impact on the city of Campina.The main results that project achieved are:- the analysis of the existing situation regarding phenomena generated by climate changes and their impact at the level of Campina municipality;- realization of the Strategy and Plan of mitigation measures and adaptation to climate change for the municipality of Campina, measures having and integrative role, both from the point of view of the climate change effects, as well as a role of evaluating the effects of economic development resulting from the implementation of measures related to climate change mitigation and adaptation; - Validation of the Strategy and Plan of mitigation measures and adaptation to climate change for the municipality of Campina and their approval by Decision of the local Council of the municipality of Campina (HCL no. 156/31.08.2023; https://www.primariacampina.ro/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Hotararea-nr156-aprob-Strategie-si-Plan-atenuare_adaptare-schimbari-climatice-Mun-Campina-2023.pdf) - raising awareness of the challenges caused by climate change and increasing the responsive capacity of the local population and local public authorities in the current context (creation of a web-page on the website of the Campina town hall; creation of the project Facebook and project Instagram pages);- development of a behavior of the target audience that arouses interest in documentation and action regarding the issue of mitigation and adaptation to climate change and the project implementation results (conducting 2 public awareness sessions; creation and distribution of promotion and visibility materials regarding the project implementation).Summary of bilateral results
The partnership with the University of Iceland took place in good conditions, with constant communication and an exchange of information that led to obtaining results valued within the project.
