Description

The project “Energy Efficiency in Buildings: Engaging communities and authorities, advancing new technologies” aims contributing to increasing the knowledge of the general public - individual consumers on renewable energy and energy efficiency and energy security. A detailed public campaign targeting the general public is foreseen aiming to improve the behavior of each individual and reduce personal carbon footprint and promote the benefits of increased energy efficiency in buildings at the national level will reach an estimated target of 110,000 viewers/readers country-wide. The project aims at increasing the level of awareness of energy-efficient solutions and promoting responsible behaviors, in line with the EU''s climate ambitions.

Summary of project results

The implementation of the described activities aimed at increasing knowledge and awareness of energy efficiency, renewable energy, and energy security among the general public and specific groups, including: students in high schools or younger, active citizens in three small average urban areas, students in universities in three cities, local authorities in a total of 9 local communities and three cities of Romania, decision and policymakers (with a focus on advancing new technologies for households - heat pumps).

The project activities were to promote nZEB school renovation: successfully applied a technical concept for nearly zero energy building (nZEB) school renovations in at least 3 + 6 local communities, ensuring the involvement of local authorities, communities, and direct beneficiaries (students and teachers). The project increased awareness among direct beneficiaries: enhance awareness among at least 150 students and teachers in 3 small urban communities benefiting from renovated non-residential buildings (e.g. schools) through the România Eficientă project. Increased knowledge on simple, concrete measures to reduce consumption in three smaller cities (in communities benefiting from a school renovation at nZEB standards) and three university centers (Bucharest, Ploiești) with an estimated participation of at least 150 students. It developed policy recommendations on advancing new technologies, essential for reducing household consumption (e.g. heat pumps), and engaged local authorities in dialogue with key experts to discuss the need for and options for widespread use.

The project concluded successfully, achieving significant milestones and having a significant impact on energy efficiency awareness and practices. The national campaign on energy efficiency reached approximately 110,000 citizens through various media channels, including social media, radio, and public events. This campaign successfully raised public awareness about the benefits of energy efficiency, leading many participants to express a commitment to adopting energy-saving measures both at the public level and at their homes.
