Zero Energy Waste Water Treatment Plant in Craiova Municipality - ZEP Craiova

Project facts

Project promoter:
SC COMPANIA DE APA OLTENIA SA(RO)
Project Number:
RO-ENERGY-0118
Status:
Completed
Initial project cost:
€524,297
Final project cost:
€571,156

Description

The main objective of the project is implementation of a 0,350 MW photovoltaic plant in order to assure electricity from renewable resources for the technological process, which will contribute to the significant reduction of electricity costs and will reduce the CO2 emissions. The company conducted a feasibility study, from which it resulted that the installation of a photovoltaic plant has obvious advantages due to high energy production efficiency, the use of renewable energy and the reduction of energy costs.

The photovoltaic system will be placed on the ground, next to the water treatment equipment at the Făcăi station, partially covering the own electricity consumption during the day. According to the feasibility study, a total of 642 monocrystalline photovoltaic panels will be installed, with a total installed capacity of 0,350 MWp. The panels will be installed on a movable metal structure with a single axis. Even though the investment for the tracker scenario is higher, this system produces about 22% more energy than a fixed structure system. The photovoltaic plant will produce 572 MWh/year for own consumption. Key activities include:

  • Project design and investment.
  • Internal project management.
  • Publicity to ensure the visibility of the project.

The investment targeted by this project has a positive impact on the company. Its implementation reduces energy consumption from conventional sources, energy cost economy and gives a partial energy autonomy.

Summary of project results

The main problem of the Project Promoter was the high dependency on the conventional energy sources, including the electricity purchased from the national grid, which represents a high cost for the company.

The project consisted in implementation of a photovoltaic system placed on the ground, with a total realized installed capacity of 0,385 MWp, in order to assure electricity from renewable sources for the daily activities of the Project Promoter and to reduce CO2 emissions.

Outcomes:
a) Estimated annual CO2 emission reductions: 175 tons of CO2 eq./year;
b) Energy produced from other renewable sources in MWh/year: 572 MWh/year;

Outputs:
a) Installed capacity for production of electricity (in MW): 0,385 MW;
b) Number of new installations for production of renewable energy: 1 photovoltaic installation (bifacial panels, placed on a movable metal structure with a single axis, North-South);

Other indicators:
- Number of staff trained in the project: 5 employees.

The proposed photovoltaic system will contribute to decreasing the dependency on conventional  sources by locally producing green energy which will be used for own consumption. The implementation of renewable energy will allow the company to decrease its annual CO2 emissions with estimated 365 tons of CO2 eq. per year.
