Photovoltaic power plant for self-consumption within S.C. APULUM S.A.

Project facts

Project promoter:
Apulum S.A.(RO)
Project Number:
RO-ENERGY-0114
Status:
Completed
Initial project cost:
€589,899
Final project cost:
€1,096,945

Description

The main objective of the project is implementation of a 0,997 MWp photovoltaic system in order to assure electricity from renewable resources for the production process of porcelain and decorative items and to reduce CO2 emissions. The company conducted a feasibility study from which it resulted that the installation of a photovoltaic plant has obvious advantages due to high energy production efficiency, the use of renewable energy and the reduction of energy costs.

The photovoltaic modules will be mounted on the greenfield site, to the west of the S.C. Apulum S.A. factory, to partially cover the electricity consumption during the day. According to the feasibility study, it is desired to install a number of approximatively 1.830 ground-mounted photovoltaic modules. The modules will be installed on a fixed metal structure, anchored to the ground, facing south at a tilt angle of 35°. The photovoltaic plant will produce 1.193 MWh/year for own consumption.

The annual electricity consumption at company level is 13.306 MWh/year (in period May 2021 – April 2022). The proposed photovoltaic system will contribute to decreasing the dependency on conventional sources by locally producing green energy which will be used for own consumption. The implementation of renewable energy will allow the company to decrease its annual CO2 emission by 10%, or 365 tonnes of CO2 eq. per year. Key activities include:

  • Delivery of equipment and installations of the PV system.
  • Internal project management.
  • Financial audit.
  • Publicity to ensure the visibility of the project.

The investment targeted by this project has a positive impact on the company. Its implementation reduces the energy consumption from conventional sources, provides energy cost economy and gives a partial energy autonomy. Value is also created through the improvement of the company’s image by using renewable energy sources, and by producing products with less climate impact.

Summary of project results

The main problem of the Project Promoter was the high dependency on the conventional energy sources, including the electricity purchased from the national grid, which represents a high cost for the company.

The project consisted in implementation of a photovoltaic system placed on the ground, with a total installed capacity of 0,99735 MWp, in order to assure electricity from renewable sources for the daily activities of the Project Promoter and to reduce CO2 emissions.

Outcomes:
a) Estimated annual CO2 emission reductions: 365 tonns of CO2 eq./year;
b) Energy produced from other renewable sources in MWh/year: 1.193 MWh/Year;

Outputs:
a) Installed capacity for production of electricity (in MW): 0,997 MW;
b) Number of new installations for production of renewable energy: 1 photovoltaic installation.

The proposed photovoltaic system will contribute to decreasing the dependency on conventional  sources by locally producing green energy which will be used for own consumption. The implementation of renewable energy will allow the company to decrease its annual CO2 emissions with estimated 365 tonnes of CO2 eq. per year.
