Description

The company has to modernize its energy production and to switch from fossil-based energy production to renewable energy-based energy supply. At the moment during the wintertime in the production halls can only achieve 3-4 degrees for the employees, which is not acceptable, it is unhealthy and limits the production capacities of the workers. At the same time, the wood dryers can hardly supply with the necessary thermal energy, while frequently occur blackouts at the boilers which are outdated. The heat grid network is outdated (constructed in 70s), while several buildings are not connected to the heating plant, having improvised equipment.
The project is converting wood waste produced at Casarbor into thermal energy. The thermal energy is used for the technology process, space heating and domestic hot water. An outdated heating plant will be replaced by high efficiency biomass boilers to avoid fossil fuel consumption. In order to achieve at least 18 degrees in the production hall, it is necessary to install 48 fan heaters with a combined capacity of 1,2 MW.  Key activities of the project include:

  • External consultancy.
  • Investment.
  • Publicity to ensure the visibility of the project.

Expected outcomes of the project includes an estimated annual decrease of CO2 emissions by 2.192,21 tonnes. The new system is estimated to produce annually 9.356,7 MWh/year from renewable sources.

Summary of project results

The achieved outcomes and outputs of the project:
- Estimated annual decrease of 2.192 t CO2 -eq/year emission
- Estimated annual production of energy from other renewable sources (biomass) (MWh/y): 9,356.7  MWh/year
- Total Installed Bioenergy Capacity (MW): 3
