Description
The target groups of the project are 70 teachers, 75 parents and guardians and 250 pupils from five schools in rural areas, Dambovita county, the total percentage of Roma children more than 50%. The general objective of the project is to increase the degree of social inclusion in Dambovita Ccunty, through educational activities addressed to children at risk in 5 schools, to their parents and guardians and to the teachers.
The general objective will be achieved through the following specific objectives:
OS1 consisted in increasing the level of teaching staff’s competences in the school units included in the project. and development of teaching materials
OS2: Attracting and keeping children at risk into education, through non-formal activities.
OS3. Increasing the collaboration capacity of parents / guardians with the school environment, for the good of children.
Summary of project results
"The Strategy of the Romanian Government for the Inclusion of Romanian Citizens Belonging to the Roma Minority for the period 2015-2020" has only partially achieved its objectives, according to the Romanian Government Strategy for the Inclusion of Romanian Citizens Belonging to the Roma Minority for the period 2021-2027. From the total number of people considered illiterate, almost 30% belong to the Roma minority.
Therefore the project "We Unite romania Through Education, implemented by the Corint Pro Educatie Association, increased the degree of social inclusion in the Dambovita county, through educational activities aimed at Roma children at risk, their parents and guardians, and teaching staff from 5 rural schools.
The level of competences of 70 teaching staff from the 5 school units was increased by training and educational activities organised in the field of: student-centered teaching methods, diversity in school, citizenship and responsibility, communication beyond prejudices.
Six intellectual products were elaborated for the target groups in the project: teachers, parents and students, that were placed on the project website: Inclusive Education - Challenges and Solutions; Foray into Roma History; National Minorities and the Romanian State; The family, People, Places, Traditions; Me with the others. More than 70 Roma and Non-Roma parents took part in several workshops, such as: Effective communication between parents, teachers and students; Respecting customs, traditions and values; The role of parents in shaping the future of children; How do we discriminate without realizing it?; Cultural diversity makes our community more welcoming, to increase their cooperation with the school attended by their children.
250 Roma and Non-Roma children from the partner school participated in non-formal activities in order to increase their knowledge and attitudes on inclusion, such as: Inclusion and Diversity in My School; Our Historical Roots; I Respect the Traditions of Your Nation; Family and School – My Two Universes, which intertwin; The Environment in Which I Live Is Also My Responsibility.
The three target groups involved in the project: 70 teachers working with Roma children, 75 Roma and Non-Roma parents and 250 Roma and Non-Roma children from the five rural school in the Dambovita County were involved in training activities (the teachers) and non-formal activities (the parents and children). They improved their knowledge and attitudes in topics like: inclusive schools, pupil-centred education, cooperation teacher-parent-children, Roma history, non-discrimination, and generated an increased capacity of the partner schools to ensure an effective inclusion of Roma children.
